Why Eggs Were $6.23 and Now They're $2.27

3 วิว02/10/2026

One Sunday the carton said $6.23. I put it back. Then I bought it anyway. This week the same carton is $2.27. I wanted to know who to blame. It was not who I thought. BLS city average for a dozen Grade A large eggs: $6.23 in March 2025. $2.27 in August 2026. NPR, October 1, 2026: USDA counted about 51 million egg-laying hens lost from October 2024 to March 2025. Groceries in August 2026 were up 2.2% year over year. Eggs were down 23%. U.S. egg imports in 2025: 121 million dozen-equivalent, up from 29.8 million — next to about 90 billion eggs produced at home. USDA put up to $1 billion toward biosecurity and indemnity after the wave. Comment SIX or TWO — which carton sticker do you remember? Not financial advice. Educational and entertainment only.
