A Mirror with No Face (scored)

There is no one behind the reflection. We stare into an endless pattern, waiting for it to recognise us. For a moment it seems to: a symmetrical shape, two glowing eyes, something that almost feels like a face. But the longer we look, the more the illusion comes apart. The reflection splits into copies, the rules that built it begin to change, and the whole structure turns itself inside out. What we mistook for a self was only a formula, repeating. Maybe the pattern was never looking at us. Maybe we were the ones who needed a face to be there.
