# **HAUL AWAY, SAINT JOSEPH — THE CAMINO OF SYDNEY** **More than 1,500 men. One Rosary. Seven churches. One journey toward Christ.** In the early hours of **Saturday, 22 August**, Sydney witnessed a very different kind of procession. While the city's Friday-night streets were filled with neon, music and revellers, more than **1,500 Catholic men** gathered to walk through the darkness behind a statue of **Saint Joseph**. This was the **Camino of St Joseph**—an overnight pilgrimage of prayer, sacrifice, brotherhood and faith. The journey began at **St Patrick's Church, Church Hill**, where men first gathered for Mass and Confession. Before the procession even started, priests heard confessions for hours as men came seeking God's mercy. Then the statue of Saint Joseph was lifted onto the shoulders of the pilgrims, and the journey began. The men walked more than **20 kilometres**, stopping at seven historic churches for prayer and Eucharistic adoration: ⛪ St Patrick's, Church Hill ⛪ St Brendan's, Annandale ⛪ St Joseph's, Camperdown ⛪ St Benedict's, Broadway ⛪ St Peter's, Surry Hills ⛪ St Canice's, Elizabeth Bay ⛪ St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney Like a crew travelling through a long night, the pilgrims moved together—fathers, sons, grandfathers, teenagers, teachers and tradies. Each man carried his own intention. For the sick. For families. For wives and children. For personal conversion. For the desire to become a better husband and father. And Saint Joseph stood as their guide. **Father. Protector. Worker. Husband. Guardian of the Holy Family.** The Camino became a powerful expression of brotherhood—a reminder that no man should have to walk alone. As dawn approached, the procession reached **St Mary's Cathedral**. Exhausted but joyful, the pilgrims entered for Mass and the Eucharist, completing the journey in prayer. Then came breakfast, laughter and plenty of stories about sore feet and blisters. But the real destination was never simply the cathedral.
