There are places on Earth that don’t look like they belong on Earth at all.
Socotra is one of them.
Located in the Arabian Sea, this remote island is famous for its extraordinary landscapes and unique wildlife. Many of its plants and animals are found nowhere else on the planet.
The most iconic of them is the Dragon’s Blood Tree — a strange umbrella-shaped tree that produces deep red resin and looks like something from another world.
But Socotra is much more than one unusual tree. The island is home to bizarre bottle-shaped plants, rare birds, reptiles, and countless species that evolved in isolation over millions of years.
Its dry mountains, white beaches, strange forests, and alien-looking flora make Socotra feel less like an island — and more like a lost world.
