Why Your Stomach Isn't the Nutrient Hub

1 วิว23 ชั่วโมงที่แล้ว

The human small intestine stretches over six meters, yet most of us think the stomach does the heavy lifting. In reality the stomach’s main tasks are mechanical churning and acid‑driven protein denaturation; it absorbs only water, alcohol and a few drugs. The real nutrient harvest begins when the acidic slurry called chyme passes into the duodenum, the first segment of the small intestine. There bile from the liver and pancreatic juice flood the lumen, finishing the breakdown of fats, proteins and carbohydrates into molecules tiny enough to cross the gut wall. The intestinal lining is folded into millions of villi and microvilli, expanding the absorptive surface to an area comparable to a tennis court. Through this vast interface glucose, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals enter capillaries and lacteals and travel to the liver for processing. The jejunum and ileum continue this work, each specialized for different nutrient classes. By the time material reaches the large intestine, almost all usable nutrients are gone; the colon’s job is water reclamation and feces formation. So the stomach is merely a prep kitchen, while the small intestine is the true dining hall where the body actually fuels itself. #shorts #viral
