They will say, "We prayed with you, we did business with you, we were friends with you, we were family with you, we were cousins with you, we went to the same college, university...".
The speaker highlights the tragedy of this separation. The believers, safe behind a protective wall, will then explain to the hypocrites how they lost their faith. The speaker emphasizes that losing one's Iman (faith) doesn't happen overnight; it is a gradual process. The believers will reveal that the hypocrites lost their light because they continuously put themselves in "fitnah" (trials) and toxic environments, slowly chipping away at their faith until they were spiritually bankrupt.
