The story begins about seven years before the events of Final Fantasy VII. Zack Fair is an ambitious young member of Shinra's company's elite 2nd level SOLDIER unit. Under the guidance of his mentor, Angeal Hewley, Zack dreams of rising to the rank of 1st level SOLDIER and becoming a hero.
