Inside Europe’s $150M Border Crossing (3,900m Alpine Cable Car!)

1 วิว15 ชั่วโมงที่แล้ว

We traveled to Zermatt, Switzerland, to test the highest and most extreme border crossing in Europe. This isn't a normal checkpoint. It’s a $150 million engineering masterpiece suspended nearly 3,900 meters in the air, connecting Switzerland directly to Italy over a massive, frozen glacier. But how do you actually build something this massive halfway off a frozen cliff? And what happens if the power completely fails while you are trapped 170 meters above the Alps? Sven and I got exclusive access behind closed doors. Markus, the technical manager, took us deep inside the facility to show us the raw mechanics keeping the 3S cable car moving. We explored the command room, the 70-ton cables, and the underground backup systems built directly into solid permafrost. We also tested the Crystal Ride, a unique cabin where the floor suddenly turns completely clear, giving you a terrifying 170-meter drop view straight down into the glacier crevices. From drilling 25 meters into solid ice to crossing the international border floating in the sky, this is what it really takes to run the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing.
