A poignant Bengali political drama film directed by Aniket Chattopadhyay and produced by Kaustuv Ray, Shankar Mudi portrays the life in a small suburban locality of Kolkata named Goragacha. The neighbourhood centres around a small grocery shop run by Shankar, alongside a barber, tea stall, tailors, and an auto rickshaw driver.
As advanced civilized modernisation and globalisation bring a newly emerged shopping mall into their locality, local small-scale business owners face an uneven challenge for survival. Despite Shankar's attempts to cope with the "mall effects" through home delivery and digital payment options, the community struggles against the harsh impacts of unguided globalization.
