Set in 1930s Shanghai, the story follows Murong Qingyi (played by Zhang Linghe), who suffers severe abuse from his adoptive father due to a case of mistaken identity. While fleeing as a teenager, he is rescued by Ren Susu (played by Wang Churan). The two fall deeply in love, but their relationship brings catastrophe to Susu's family. To protect others, Susu is forced to fake her death and disappears, leaving Murong heartbroken. Three years later, Susu re-enters Murong's life under a new identity, engaged to become his future sister-in-law. The reunion triggers an intense clash between Murong's lingering resentment and Susu's hidden pain.
