Vortex Generators Don’t Do What You Think (Nissan Skyline R32 vs Subaru WRX | CFD)

0 วิว31/01/2026

Do vortex generators actually improve a car’s aerodynamics — or are they just a placebo mod? In this video I run CFD simulations on two icons: the Nissan Skyline R32 and the 2022 Subaru WRX. I tested both cars with and without vortex generators placed at the rear of the roof (right before the rear window), then compared the results. What happened? ✅ Drag: basically no change ⚠️ Lift: increased on both cars (worse for stability / “downforce”) I’ll walk through why this can happen, show the flow behavior around the roof-to-rear-window region, and break down what this means if you’re thinking about adding VGs to a street car. If you like CFD-based car aero tests, subscribe — I post regular aerodynamic deep-dives and ranked results across different cars and modifications. Topics include drag coefficient, wake structure, diffuser design, wheel aerodynamics, pressure recovery, lift and downforce, and rear separation in road cars and supercars. #CFD #Aerodynamics #VortexGenerators #SkylineR32 #NissanSkyline #WRX #SubaruWRX #CarAero #Downforce #Drag
