One year after opening, we revisit The Gameroom Powered By Hasbro, the newest and largest arcade within the American Dream Mall at East Rutherford, NJ. While we had a great time during the grand opening, this visit left quite a bit to be desired. First and foremost, we're disappointed to see the removal and abandonment of the Ultimate Roller Games concept. This set of nine different Skee-Ball style games that were based around classic Hasbro properties such as Sorry!, Candy Land, Monopoly, Battleship, and more have been moved out of the laser tag alcove and relegated to a dark, roped-off corner. These were some of the arcade's most unique offerings, and with them no longer being available to play, I feel like it leaves The Gameroom lacking in uniqueness. While there's still a handful of unique Hasbro-themed carnival games along the back wall, such as the ones themed to Super Soakers and Mr. Potato Head, The Gameroom is filled with mostly the same redemption games it had at opening, many of which are the same games that can be found at other arcades. Including other arcades WITHIN THE SAME MALL. Also, during our visit, although the Gameroom was absolutely slam-packed, both the Gameroom Eats restaurant and Candy Land milkshake bar were closed. Presumably they operate on a different schedule than the rest of the offerings there, but still, it seems weird to devote so much space to these spots within the place and not have them available during their regular operating hours. As far as new games go, the only additions that I noticed to their lineup were the popular NBA Superstars reboot of NBA Jam, as well as a single Pump It Up Phoenix cabinet, filling the rhythm game gap in their lineup. They still have an extremely crowded clawcade section in its own little room, which blows my mind because all the machines play a "womp womp" sound effect every time a claw fails at picking up a prize.
