ꕥ Sea Anemone Fun Facts
֍ They’re animals, not plants!
⮡ Even though sea anemones look like colorful underwater flowers, they are actually predatory animals related to jellyfish and corals.
֍ Sticky tentacles, deadly hugs.
⮡ Sea anemones use stinging cells (called nematocysts) on their tentacles to paralyze tiny fish and plankton before eating them.
֍ Some have roommates!
⮡ Certain species, like clownfish, live among the tentacles of sea anemones, protected from predators by the anemone’s stings thanks to a special mucus layer on their skin.
֍ They can move (slowly)!
⮡ Though most people think they're stuck in one spot, sea anemones can slowly glide across surfaces or let go and drift to a new home.
֍ Regeneration masters.
⮡ If a sea anemone gets injured, it can often regrow parts of its body—or even clone itself by splitting in two!
֍ They don’t have a brain!
⮡ Sea anemones use a simple nerve net to respond to their environment—no brain needed to catch dinner!
