This past Saturday, my family and I visited the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey. This large aquarium right on the edge of the river is home to sharks, stingrays, jellyfish, hippos, penguins, and all other sorts of aquatic life. We've been here once before, back when we still had Dollywood season passes; since they're owned by the same company, we got discounted admission at the time. But this weekend was something entirely special.
In association with Nintendo, Adventure Aquarium was running a special crossover event with the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This included unique decorations, museum curator Blathers providing his own unique commentary on many of the exhibits, character standees, and even a personal appearance by Tom Nook (love him or hate him; and the majority of the folks in attendance were firmly in the "love him" camp!). There was also a kiosk to check in and earn Nintendo Points for your visit, as well as download some exclusive wallpapers for your phone. And of course, there was plenty of merch available for purchase as well.
I personally love museums and aquariums, so this wasn't a tough sell for me, and adding the whimsical Animal Crossing touches throughout the building were extra pixie dust on top of an already magical experience. The Tom Nook photo session went by fairly quickly; with multiple appearance times throughout the day, there was never too much of a line that they couldn't clear. My personal favorite little easter egg was seeing Gulliver washed up on one of the rocks near the stingray pond... oh, never change, Gulliver.
As far as the aquarium itself goes, it was fantastic! Highlights include the Touch-A-Shark section (and other such related areas, such as with horseshoe crabs, rays, and anemones), the awesome Shark Tunnel where you're surrounded on all sides by thousands of fish and the giant ocean predators themselves, and of course, the lovable sleepy hippos Genny and Button!
