Funcade is a staple of the Ocean City boardwalk in Maryland! Having been in operation since 1963, this family-owned arcade has changed with the times over the past 60 plus years, but still has nods to its classic past. The most eyecatching part of the arcade is their bank of classic Skee-Ball machines located at the back. Painted in vibrant red, blue, yellow and green colors, these lanes have the old flipboard style scoring and don't have the 100 point targets up in the corners. For the longest time, these were kept at 25¢ a play, but even still today at 50¢ per game it's some great old school fun. While a good chunk of the rest of the arcade features the prize redemption and ticket games that you've come to expect from boardwalk arcades, there are still some actual video games to be found here. Of course there's the token Ms. Pac-Man + Galaga machine, there's some racing games with Mario Kart and Fast & Furious both making appearances, and the ever-present Jurassic Park Arcade game is always a crowd-pleaser. Some new redemption games of note include the surprisingly fun Poke A Prize, and the Over The Edge reskin Funko Funcade, filled with tons of those little googly-eyed collectibles. And, as seems to be par for the course for OCMD, there's even some pinball here being represented by a pair of modern Stern machines, Foo Fighters and James Bond 007, both in their pro editions but neither connected to Insider online services. Although this is one of the smaller arcades on the OCMD boardwalk, it still offers a lot of choice and a lot of fun. Although they're closing for the season after this weekend, they should be back open again once the weather starts warming up next spring. Here's to another 60 years, guys!
