Dorothy senses that Oz is both wondrous and uncanny, a place where appearances may hide deeper truths. At the palace gates, they are told that the Wizard will only see them one at a time. This adds tension and mystery — each companion must face the Wizard alone, uncertain of what awaits. Dorothy’s Audience Dorothy is the first to enter. In the anime, her meeting is softened, with the Wizard appearing as a grand, glowing figure. In Baum’s novel, the Wizard’s form shifts depending on who sees him — to Dorothy, he appears as a giant head, terrible and awe-inspiring.
