The storm is not whimsical but terrifying — a force of nature that rips her away from everything familiar. Arrival in Oz: When the house finally lands, Dorothy steps outside into a world that is the opposite of Kansas: vibrant, colorful, and alive. The sudden shift from gray desolation to dazzling beauty is overwhelming, almost uncanny. The Wicked Witch of the East: Dorothy soon learns that her house has crushed the Wicked Witch of the East. The Munchkins, small and brightly dressed people, gather around her. They celebrate her as a heroine, but the scene carries a darker undertone — Dorothy has killed, albeit accidentally, and the land itself seems to recognize the gravity of this act. Meeting the Good Witch: A kindly witch appears, explaining the situation and gifting Dorothy the silver shoes (changed to ruby slippers in later adaptations). She tells Dorothy that the Wicked Witch of the East’s power is gone, but her sister — the Wicked Witch of the West — remains a threat. The Quest Begins: Dorothy is told that only the Wizard of Oz in Emerald City can help her return home.
