One night, a line leaves its assigned route. It crosses wet concrete, climbs a wall, passes an abandoned platform and stops before a door that does not appear on any official map. A young route-listener is sent to investigate. At first, she records it as a system error. Then the line begins responding to her steps. Water follows it. The city grows quieter around it. And beyond the sealed door, another light answers. The line did not malfunction. It recognized something. Or someone. And somewhere beyond the official map, a path that should have died is still moving.
