Starting an online business was always on my mind, but I didn’t know where to begin until I discovered Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). Today, I run an automated KDP business that generates passive income without daily management. Here’s how I built it.
1. Learning the Basics of KDP
I began by understanding what KDP offers — the ability to self-publish books and earn royalties. I focused on low-content books like journals, planners, and notebooks, which don’t require much writing.
2. Niche Research and Book Ideas
Next, I researched profitable niches using tools like Amazon’s search bar, Book Bolt, and Google Trends. I chose niches with consistent demand and low competition, like gratitude journals and budget planners.
3. Designing the Books
I used Canva and PowerPoint to create interiors and covers. These tools made it easy to build attractive, unique books, even without design experience.
4. Uploading to Amazon KDP
With books ready, I uploaded them to KDP, carefully choosing keywords, titles, and categories. This helped my books rank in Amazon searches.
5. Automating the Process
Once I had a system, I outsourced cover design and interior creation to freelancers. I also scheduled uploads weekly, turning it into a fully automated flow.
6. Earning Passive Income
Now, my books sell on autopilot. I monitor performance occasionally but spend less than 2 hours a week on the business.
Starting small and scaling smart helped me build a self-running income source. If I can do it, anyone can.
