Happy New Year (sometimes abbreviated as HNY) is a 2014 Indian dance heist action comedy film directed by Farah Khan and produced by Gauri Khan under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment. The film features an ensemble cast of Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, Vivaan Shah, and Jackie Shroff. It was distributed worldwide by Yash Raj Films.[4] In the film, Charlie and his team participate in a dance competition to steal diamonds at a hotel in Dubai. Made on a total budget of ₹150 crores (US$24.58 million), the film marked the third collaboration of the lead actor, producer, and director; they previously worked on Main Hoon Na (2004) and Om Shanti Om (2007), the latter of which also featured Padukone as the female lead. Happy New Year was released on 24 October 2014 in Diwali with dubbed versions of Tamil and Telugu, where it received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances, soundtrack, humor, cinematography, action sequences, production design, and VFX, but criticized the writing, pacing, and runtime.[5] It grossed ₹25 crore (US$4.1 million) in India on its opening day, eventually grossing a total of ₹394 crore (US$64.56 million) worldwide. At the 60th Filmfare Awards, Happy New Year received 2 nominations – Best Supporting Actor (Bachchan) and Best Female Playback Singer (Shreya Ghoshal for "Manwa Laage"). The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences features the film's script in their library.
