They are taught to groom their own horses. This encourages the young riders to bond with the horses. At the Vancouver Polo Club, I was taught how to braid the pony's tail as part of my training. All polo ponies must have their tails braided before they go on the polo field. In this video, I am showing my friend Marina how to do it.
