感恩节猎狐 Canadian Fox Hunt

On Thanksgiving Day in October 2019, my dad and I went on our first fox hunt. Fox hunting is a sport. It is basically chasing a fox by horsemen with a pack of hounds. In England, the home of the sport, fox hunting dates from at least the 15th century. Unlike in England, we do not kill foxes in Canada. Rather we are chasing after the scent of a fox that has been dragged through the countryside by a horseman before the hunt. This is called "drag hunting" and no fox is killed. Drag hunting, with its emphasis on the chase rather than on the kill, is one of my dad's favourite activities on horseback. I also enjoy it because I get to be close to my dad and meet other horse people and be out in nature.
