It's Not Too Late to Break Your English Plateau | 35-Minute English Podcast (B2-C1)

Claire was emptying her mother's house when she found a shoebox in the hallway with four Spanish notebooks inside it. Four different handwritings, decades apart, one from when she was nineteen and one from about three years ago. Every single notebook opened with a date at the top of page one, written carefully, and every single one stopped somewhere around page eleven. Sitting on the floor she said the obvious thing to herself, which was that she does not finish things, and she said it almost fondly. Two days later she opened the box again and read them as four tests instead of four failures, and every test had the same result: each book died on the past tense, on roughly the same page, decades apart. This episode is about why it feels too late to start English again, and why the feeling has nothing to do with your age. At twenty you had no evidence that it does not work. At forty five you have eleven pieces of evidence, and every one of them is a method rather than a person. Four movements, fifteen real lines, none of them English words and all of them about how you hold the next attempt. THE 15 LINES IN THIS EPISODE - "That method didn't work on me." - "I stopped, and I know why." - "Four attempts is four results." - "None of them tested me." - "I'm not starting from nothing." - ...and 10 more, all said out loud in the episode. Every one is said slowly, repeated more than once, and then used in a real situation, so you can say it out loud with us instead of only recognizing it. The Fluency Plateau is for people who already understand English but freeze when it is time to speak. Each episode takes one exact moment where you get stuck and hands you the lines that get you past it. SPEAKING CHALLENGE How many times have you started English again? Say your answer out loud before you write it. #EnglishPodcast #EnglishConversation #SpeakEnglish #EnglishFluency
