# WALKIN' WITH SAINT JOSEPH — A JAZZ NIGHT OF FAITH “Walk with Joseph, walk with me, Through the darkness to the dawn we'll see.” This jazz-inspired Catholic song tells the story of the Camino of St Joseph in Sydney, an overnight pilgrimage of prayer, sacrifice, brotherhood and faith. In the early hours of Saturday, 22 August, more than 1,500 men walked through the streets of inner Sydney behind a statue of Saint Joseph. While Friday-night Sydney was filled with neon, nightlife and noise, the city eventually heard another rhythm: the Rosary, footsteps and prayer. The journey began at St Patrick's Church, Church Hill, where the men gathered for Mass and Confession before setting out. More than 20 kilometres later, the pilgrimage reached St Mary's Cathedral, passing through seven historic churches: ⛪ St Patrick's, Church Hill ⛪ St Brendan's, Annandale ⛪ St Joseph's, Camperdown ⛪ St Benedict's, Broadway ⛪ St Peter's, Surry Hills ⛪ St Canice's, Elizabeth Bay ⛪ St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney The pilgrims included fathers, sons, grandfathers, teenagers, teachers and tradies. Each man carried a personal intention. For the sick. For wives and children. For families. For personal conversion. For the desire to become a better father and husband. For the courage to become the man God is calling him to be. At the heart of the pilgrimage was Saint Joseph, the earthly protector of the Holy Family and a model of quiet strength, fatherhood, humility, sacrifice and faithful service. The Camino also revealed a hunger among men for brotherhood and purpose. Men who began as strangers found themselves walking together, praying together and encouraging one another through the long night. As dawn approached, the towers of St Mary's Cathedral appeared above College Street. The statue of Saint Joseph was carried into the cathedral, and the pilgrims followed for Holy Mass and the Eucharist. The night had become a pilgrimage of grace.
