Did you know we almost got a Batman movie where Bruce Wayne was BROKE? Before the Nolan trilogy, Darren Aronofsky pitched a deranged Batman reboot. Bruce grows up above a filthy auto garage instead of Wayne Manor. Alfred is replaced by a mechanic named "Big Al." His first costume? A hockey mask with a belt carrying homemade bombs. No high-tech gadgets. He just punches criminals with his father’s ring leaving bloody marks shaped like bats. And forget the Batmobile. Bruce drives a Lincoln Continental powered by TWO BUS ENGINES. Aronofsky wanted Taxi Driver with Batman. Warner Bros. wanted PG-13. Was this a missed masterpiece or a dodged bullet?
