We are reaching the very edge of Northern Luzon! Welcome to Part 2 of my Solo North Luzon Loop motorcycle ride. In this leg, we hit the iconic coastal roads of Ilocos Norte, riding past the massive Bangui Windmills and carving through the sweeping curves of the famous Patapat Viaduct in Pagudpud. Standing where the mountains directly meet the ocean with the open sea on one side and sheer cliffs on the other is easily one of the most breathtaking moments of this entire journey. Riding solo through these coastal stretches presents unique challenges. The crosswinds near the coast can easily throw off your line, requiring constant body adjustments and tight throttle control. Finding the balance between staying focused on technical twisties and taking in the panoramic landscape is what makes moto-touring so addictive. We also tackle local roadside eateries, refuel at rural stations, and check over the motorcycle to ensure the engine and tires are handling the heat and mileage smoothly.
