Set in May 1951 during the Korean War (War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea), the film centers on the pivotal Battle of Cheorwon (铁原阻击战). After a month of continuous fighting, the exhausted 63rd Army of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army (≈25,000 men) is ordered to hold the strategic town of Cheorwon against nearly 50,000 UN forces. For 12 days and nights they fight with extreme determination and tactical ingenuity, buying critical time for the main force to withdraw and ultimately forcing the enemy toward armistice negotiations.
The large-scale battle is interwoven with the personal story of the Li family — political instructor Li Xiang (Zhu Yilong), his father Li Moyin (Xin Baiqing), and sister Li Xiao (Zhang Zifeng) — highlighting individual sacrifice, family bonds, and the human cost of war amid the epic conflict.
