New German Cinema (Neuer Deutscher Film) was a bold and politically charged film movement that emerged in West Germany in the late 1960s and flourished through the 1970s and early 1980s. It arose in response to the decline of the German film industry after World War II and sought to confront Germany’s troubled past, cultural identity, and present anxieties through provocative, auteur-driven filmmaking.
