The story centers around three former tomb-raiders (the “Mojin”): Hu Bayi, Wang Kaixuan, and Shirley Yang. Years after retiring and relocating to New York, they are drawn back into tomb-raiding when a mysterious businesswoman/cult-leader enlists them to find the ancient tomb of a Mongolian princess — under the pretense of archaeology. What begins as a treasure hunt quickly turns into a dangerous journey, as they discover that their client actually seeks a legendary artifact (known as the Equinox Flower) that’s rumored to have the power to raise the dead. Trust, loyalty and survival all come under test as the trio navigate tombs full of traps, supernatural elements, and rival tomb-robbers.
It’s a big-budget Chinese fantasy/adventure film that blends tomb-raiding, supernatural elements, and treasure-hunting — similar in spirit to adventure franchises like Indiana Jones / The Mummy.
The film is based on one of China’s most famous novel series (Ghost Blows Out the Light), giving it a built-in fanbase and deep lore roots.
Its success at the box office (domestic + international) shows its broad appeal, especially for viewers who enjoy action + fantasy + adventure with Chinese cultural flavor.
