On October 28, Google and XREAL released XREAL Aura — the first wired glasses on Android XR.
• see-through lenses: you see your room, with screens and apps on top; 70° field of view;
• plug in a laptop with one USB-C cable and its screen becomes a window in the air — no software, and only you can see it;
• Gemini sees both your room and your screens: it arranges windows, gives you hints in games, shows how furniture fits your room;
• movie mode: dim the lenses — and if someone walks up, they turn clear again;
• the glasses weigh 95 g: the rest is in a pocket unit on a cable with the Snapdragon Reality Elite chip;
• launch price from $1,099 until the end of the year (regular $1,279); orders in the US, Canada and Korea, Japan from November 2, shipping from mid-November.
Downsides: the cable to the unit, and it's sold in only four countries so far.
My forecast: in 3–5 years, glasses like these will replace laptops and TVs, and Gemini will give you hints right on top of the real world.
