What makes a guy drop everything and cycle 700km to Gibraltar?
I'm Rubem — Rubinho to my family — and I've been living in Portugal for a few years now. I used to ride trails with my brother, my cousin, my friends when I was a kid, and I always loved it. So instead of just going back to the gym like everyone else, I decided to go big: cycle from my couch all the way to Gibraltar, at the southern tip of Spain — roughly 760km from where I live.
This channel is my weekly log of that journey: the training, the setbacks, the good days and the brutal ones, all the way up to the trip itself in May 2027.
In this first episode: today's challenge is riding from Santo André (where I live) to Porto Covo — off-road, on trail, just like I used to as a teenager. No experience, no real plan, just the idea that if I can survive this, I can survive anything Gibraltar throws at me.
Follow along as I try to find out if an average, out-of-shape, never-done-sports guy can actually turn himself into someone who can pedal 800km in under 10 days.
