At first glance, this place looks impossible. Sørvágsvatn, located in the Faroe Islands, appears to sit hundreds of meters above the Atlantic Ocean. From the famous viewpoint near the cliffs, the lake seems to float dramatically over the sea below. But the reality is even more interesting. The lake is only around 30 meters above sea level. The enormous surrounding cliffs and the angle from which you see it create one of nature’s most convincing optical illusions.
