Sony is ending discs. Xbox just made yours digital too.

I put a deposit on a used Xbox Series S and haven't even picked it up yet. Somehow that's made me more interested in consoles than I've been in a decade, and I've walked straight into the wildest week in years. Sony announced it's ending physical discs for PlayStation in 2028. The backlash got so loud they had to answer it in a shareholder meeting. And right in the middle of the worldwide boycott, Xbox announced disc-to-digital: your discs keep working, but now they're digital too. Your discs, now also digital, versus your discs, gone. This is why I think Xbox just won the argument, the honest problems with that take, and the bit where I admit the console I'm buying doesn't even have a disc slot.
