Siegfried Sassoon, MC (Military Cross) was nicknamed "Mad Jack" for his near-suicidal exploits against the German lines in WW1 and was decorated with the Military Cross. This powerful performance is about his protest against the appalling and unnecessary sacrifice of men's lives in the First World War. Michael Jayston played war poet Wilfred Owen too, in 1970. Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen were friends (Wilfred Owen died very young, on the front).
