On the morning of Indonesia's 81st Independence Day, Wulan discovers her grandmother Sari's old diary — a memory that carries her back through time to 1945.
Through the yellowed pages, she witnesses her grandmother, still a young woman then, hearing the news of freedom through an old radio alongside her family. She sees how the villagers stitched a red-and-white flag together with their own hands, and how it was raised for the very first time on a simple bamboo pole — met with tears of joy and echoing cries of "Merdeka!"
Back in the present, Wulan stands at the ceremony grounds, holding the hand of Kirana, a curious young girl. As the Sang Saka Merah Putih flag rises once more into the bright morning sky, she realizes — independence isn't just history to be read, but a spirit that must be carried forward and passed on.
A story about memory, family, and how the spirit of freedom never truly fades — it simply passes from one generation to the next. 🇮🇩✨
A tribute to 81 years of Indonesian independence.
