Dual Base ISOs Of Sony A7V Are ISO800 And ISO 8000 But Are Unequal - Sony A7V Part 1

9 Views7 hours ago

Today we are understanding the noise at different ISOs for videos from the Sony’s 1st ever true affordable hybrid beast - The Alpha 7V. I decided to do the same old close cap test. Of course I exaggerated the curves to see the noise clearly. If I hadn’t, then it is less than -2EV with the lens cap on and the noise levels will be difficult to differentiate between different ISOs. According to Sony, the Base ISO for Slog3 is at ISO800 and I couldn’t get any official information about the 2nd base ISO. Before I talk about my observation, honestly, we will not be in a position to film at ISO’s more than 12,800, So, I performed these tests only up to ISO12800. The idea behind recording these clips is to find at which ISO the noise cleans up and to what extent. Now, based on my observation, the claim of the internet folks is right, You may clearly see the difference in the ISO noise between ISO6400 and ISO8000 clips. It is drastic. Now that we have made sure that the ISO cleans up at ISO8000, to what degree does the ISO clean up? To understand this, I started to compare the ISO 8000 with ISO800 and so on. At ISO1600, the noise is exactly as the ISO8000. This means the assumed second base ISO at 8000 has 1 full stop more noise than the 1st base ISO at 800.
