They can't stop, won't stop! The Gatcha chain of Japanese-inspired arcades continues to expand, and their newest location just opened this past weekend in the King of Prussia Mall just northwest of Philadelphia, PA. We've visited two of their other spots before; the one that opened late last year in Edison, NJ, as well as their flagship store inside the Tangram Mall in Flushing, Queens, NY. How does this newest location stack up? Well, as expected, it's got tons of claw machines, since that's their main focus. Not just the traditional claw machines, either, but also a mix of unique ones such as picking balls up and dropping them into a grid, or the "ichiban kuji" games where grabbing the prize in the claw machine earns you a ticket good for a random prize from a selection of different merch. And also as you might guess from their other locations, they feature a number of imported Japanese rhythm games, including stuff like Maimai, Chunithm, Dancerush Stardom, Wacca, and Jubeat! They've also got a dizzying array of prizes available in the redemption center, all of which can either be traded for with smaller wins from the claw machines or just purchased outright. So if you're the kind of person that loves filling up your shelves with anime figures and giant robots, this is definitely the right place for you. One surprising addition here was a head-to-head pinball machine called Pac-Man Panic. I've seen it before at a few places such as Round1, but it's usually out of order. Definitely made sure to get a play in on it before leaving.
Overall, Gatcha is a bright, colorful, loud place with lots of stuff to satisfy, but the biggest problem with it is the pricing. Many of the games can cost anywhere from 8 to 12 credits per swipe, and even at the highest value-for-cost reload package, that can come out to about $2.25 to $3.40 per play. If you purchased one of the lower value-for-cost cards, like the one that gives you 28 credits for $11? Congrats, that 12 credit game now
