Set in a fictional ancient world, the story follows Shangguan Zhiluo, who grew up in an orphanage until she was adopted by the Shangguan family at twelve. At seventeen, she marries Pei Junze, the commander of the Imperial Guard. Three years into their marriage, their relationship is cold, and the constant harassment from Pei's mother escalates family conflicts. During Pei Junze's tour of duty, he is injured, and female constable Jiang Xuanyan's excessive concern sparks an emotional crisis.
