At fifteen, Su Tang's family was destroyed by Xu Yin, and she crawled out of a fire to become Du Yao, a woman bent on revenge. Du Yao replaces her dead brother Su Zhe and goes abroad to plan Xu Yin's downfall. First, she approaches Xu Yin's younger brother Xu Ze, who is studying overseas. She saves him from kidnappers, drugs him during their escape, and uses the resulting pregnancy to enter the Xu family as a nanny. The awakened Xu Ze doesn't remember their night together, and Du Yao quietly leaves. Xu Ze investigates her past and becomes intrigued, allowing her to disappear. Second, after giving birth to son Du Kang, Du Yao becomes the family nanny and begins driving a wedge between Xu Yin and his wife Zhou Qian, trying to destroy the Zhou family's support. When Zhou Qian kicks her out, Du Yao uses the returning Xu Ze to get back in and discovers Zhou Qian's forbidden love for Xu Ze. Du Yao manipulates Zhou Qian's desires, suggesting to Xu Yin that his wife and brother might be having an affair, creating conflict between the brothers. She arranges for Zhou Qian to see her intimate moments with Xu Ze, driving Zhou Qian to jealous rage and a confrontation that Xu Yin witnesses.
