The ultimate taboo in alchemy, the refining of a human body that may bring the dead back to life, was practised by Edward and his brother Eerfensi since they mourned their mother, who passed away when they were little. However, Edvard lost his left leg as a result of the unsuccessful alchemy, while Eerfensi lost his entire body. Eduard decided to sacrifice his right arm to have his brother's soul made and fixed in a suit of armour, but the cost was too great. Consequently, Edward and Eerfensi embarked on a journey to recover what they had lost and to find the philosopher's stone, which represents great power.
