365 Days of English News. I Still Panic at a Simple Question. | 37-Minute English Podcast (B2-C1)

For 365 days in Seville, Claire read the Spanish newspaper from the kiosk on her corner every morning with her coffee, underlining every headline phrase in pencil: amid growing concern, sources close to the minister, significant cuts. Then a hairdresser called Rocio held up her scissors and asked one simple question: so, what are we doing today? Claire wanted a little off the ends. What came out was the front page: significant cuts. She walked out with her hair above her ears, after saying yes to burning water and answering a question about the bus strike, which she had read three articles about, with a headline. This episode is about why the news gives you headline-sized words while a simple question needs a short answer about you, in two seconds, and the fifteen short answers for the five simple questions that come up in almost any chair: what you want, the check-in, where you are from, your weekend, and what you think about the news. THE 15 ANSWERS IN THIS EPISODE - "Just a trim, nothing drastic." - "Same as last time, please." - "Keep the length, if you can." - "A bit cooler, please." - "That's just right, thanks." - "Could you go a bit shorter?" - "No, I moved here last year." - "I live just around the corner." - "I'm still getting to know the place." - ...and 6 more, all said out loud in the episode. Every one is said slowly, repeated more than once, and then used in a real situation, so you can say it out loud with us instead of only recognizing it. The Fluency Plateau is for people who already understand English but freeze when it is time to speak. Each episode takes one exact moment where you get stuck and hands you the answers that get you past it. SPEAKING CHALLENGE What's the simple question that catches you every time? Say your answer out loud before you write it. #EnglishPodcast #EnglishConversation #SpeakEnglish #EnglishFluency
