In our previous video, we explored the white dwarf—the tiny, incredibly dense stellar remnant that the Sun is expected to become.
But the Sun won't become a white dwarf directly.
Billions of years from now, the hydrogen in its core will run low. Its core will contract while its outer layers expand dramatically, transforming the Sun into a red giant. 🔴
Mercury and Venus are expected to be engulfed, while Earth's ultimate fate remains uncertain.
Eventually, the Sun will shed its outer layers into space, creating a spectacular planetary nebula. At its center, the exposed hot core will remain as a white dwarf. ⚪
With no ongoing nuclear fusion, the white dwarf will slowly cool over an unimaginably long period of time.
From a stable star… to a red giant… to a tiny white dwarf.
This is the incredible final journey of our Sun. 🌌
