A major expired-food repacking racket has reportedly been uncovered during surprise Food and Drug Administration raids in Navi Mumbai and Noida. Strict action was initiated against around ten companies following the inspections.
According to FDA officials, expired food and beverage products were allegedly transferred into new packets and returned to the market. Manufacturing dates and expiry dates were reportedly changed to make the products appear fresh and safe for consumption.
The operators also allegedly used fake stickers carrying altered nutritional information to mislead consumers. Names and packaging associated with popular products such as Lay’s, Kurkure, Maggi and Thums Up were reportedly used in the operation.
The raids were conducted between August 24 and 29 with assistance from the Thane and Navi Mumbai police. Officials have initiated further action against the companies and individuals allegedly connected to the network.
The available information concerns the alleged misuse of popular brand names and packaging. It does not establish that the original brand owners participated in the repacking operation.
