⛪️ Las Lajas Sanctuary, Colombia 🇨🇴 Las Lajas looks as if a Gothic church grew directly from the rock. It stands above the Guáitara River canyon on a 50 meter high bridge connecting the two sides of the gorge. The present sanctuary was built between 1916 and 1949. 🤯 The story of the site goes back to 1754. According to tradition, a local woman and her daughter saw an image of the Virgin Mary on the rock wall of the canyon. The image was later discovered on the stone itself, turning the site into a place of pilgrimage. 🏆 In 2015, British newspaper The Telegraph named Las Lajas among the most beautiful churches in the world. #wonderful_world #Colombia #LasLajas #architecture #history #travel
