Ash and his girlfriend, Linda, take a romantic vacation to a secluded log cabin. Inside, they discover a tape recorder left by archaeologist Professor Knowby. Ash plays the recording, which features verbal translations from the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis (the Book of the Dead). The recited incantations immediately awaken an ancient, invisible Kandarian demon in the surrounding forest.
