Lecture 2-2: Scientific Research and Statistics. (36 min). In this second part of the lecture, we contrast inferential and descriptive statistics, populations and samples, parameters and statistics, convenience and random samples, constants, constructs, and variables, independent and dependent variables and extraneous and confounding variables, and experimental and non-experimental study designs. Additionally, we describe the concepts of sampling error and random assignment.
