✨ We're Heard Beneath the Tree ✨
The banyan tree in Enji’s backyard begins blooming at some unknown time. 🌸
It does not bloom every year.
When it blooms, pale pink petals drift down with the wind, landing on stone steps and beside soup bowls.
One spring, Xileya crouches beneath the tree and finds words written on every petal she picks up.
She turns them over one by one. All of them say “Why.”
She finds it both curious and strangely delightful.
Xinling says they are left by someone who comes here.
That person has a bowl of soup here 🍲, cries for a long time, leaves without saying goodbye, and only leaves behind her questions.
Xileya carefully tucks the petals into her pocket and runs to find Grandma.
Grandma is drying Gratitude Grass.
“Some people carry a question so large in their hearts that even trees remember it. But leaving it here is lighter than carrying it forever.”
“What about the answer?” Xileya tilts her head.
“There may not be one. But being willing to set the question down is already moving forward.”
From that day on, Xileya comes to sit under the tree every day.
Sometimes she brings a candy, eats half herself, and leaves the other half by the roots. 🌱
“We are okay.”
Sometimes she says nothing, just presses her hand against the trunk. When the wind passes, she smiles.
The next spring, the banyan tree blooms again, more abundantly than before.
Xileya runs to gather petals — the “Why” is still there, but much fainter.
She turns one over, and her eyes light up:
On the back is a new line, written in dew:
“Thank you fo
