GPS costs you nothing, and that is by design. It was built by the United States military as NAVSTAR, to guide ships, planes, and soldiers. The project began in 1973, and the full constellation of 24 satellites was operational by 1993. For years civilian signals were deliberately blurred by Selective Availability, limiting accuracy to around a hundred metres. On 2 May 2000, President Clinton switched that blurring off, and civilian accuracy sharpened to a few metres overnight. The system is funded by American taxpayers and offered free to the entire world — no subscription, no bill, just the most precise free utility ever built. #Science #Science#History #HowItWorks #KLYPS
