In DanMachi, Hestia rubs Bell's best skill off his status sheet and tells him he has none, while Freya starts sending him monsters. Why did Hestia lie, and why does the show prove her right a season later?
Why does Hestia hide Liaris Freese from Bell Cranel in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? DanMachi season one, from J.C.Staff and Fujino Omori's light novels, has Hestia rub the growth skill off his status sheet and give two reasons out loud: jealousy over Aiz Wallenstein, and fear of what other gods do with a skill. Sword Oratoria, the Loki Familia spin-off, shows that Bell's first Minotaur escaped from Loki Familia's own expedition, and plays the Tomato Kid tavern scene with Bete and Riveria from Loki's table. Then Freya takes over: she charms the Silverback at the Monsterphilia, Loki calls her on it, and she sends Ottar to find and arm a second Minotaur, while Ottar himself blocks Aiz on her way to Bell. The steelman for Hestia gets its full due, from kneeling to Hephaestus for the Hestia Knife to a debt that could run for centuries, and so does Omori's own account, in our translation, of the editor who asked for Hestia instead of Syr. The payoff is DanMachi season two, when the goddess Ishtar reads Bell's back, says Liaris Freese out loud and learns why her charm fails. Every quoted line is from the English subtitle tracks of DanMachi and Sword Oratoria or the published interview.
