In the final decades of the Yuan dynasty, a young woman from Goryeo named Gi is taken from her quiet life and sent to the distant capital of Dadu as a tribute. Alone and broken on her first night, she meets a sharp-eyed Korean eunuch who offers her an unexpected chance to survive — and perhaps rise — within the dangerous palace.
As Gi learns the hidden rules of the court, she draws the attention of the restless emperor Toghon Temür, whose interest in her grows far stronger than she expected. At the same time, she finds herself entangled with powerful women of the inner palace, each with their own ambitions, secrets, and reasons for watching her closely.
Alliances form. Trust is given. And in a court where favor can shift overnight, Gi must decide how far she is willing to go to protect herself and those she cares about.
While the empire outside the palace walls begins to tremble, a quiet storm starts gathering inside it — one that will change the fate of everyone involved
